of the Greater Suburban Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated (GSM)

On October 30, 2016, fifty-two mothers proudly chartered the Greater Suburban Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated (GSM). The third chapter in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and the 56th chapter in the Mighty Eastern Region, highlighted the desire of mothers to make a difference in their communities while creating invaluable opportunities for leadership and cultural development for their children.

The Greater Suburban Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, (GSMJJ), under the leadership of President Alyssa King Turner, spread its wings under the theme “GSMJJ Families Take Flight” and the chapter made significant strides in programming, philanthropic giving, and serving the community, which as a result, rendered our mothers proud of the accomplishments, recognition, and leadership within Jack and Jill.
The Chapter initiated its first cohort of 18 New Mothers on May 20, 2018. On May 9, 2020, the chapter virtually initiated the it's second cohort of 4 new mothers into the chapter.
SOARING VIRTUALLY WITH EXCELLENCE 2020-2022
GSM transitioned leadership with Carleena Graham, elected to serve as President for 2020-2022. With the theme, “We are Greater Together,” President Graham demonstrated the commitment, inclusion, kindness, and innovation needed to continue to make GSMJJ Soar! In the spring of 2021, GSMJJ co-hosted with the New Haven Chapter the first virtual Eastern Region Children’s Cluster, Black Excellence, It’s In Our DNA. In 2020-2021, GSMJJ reflected that when we come “Together, we are GREATER”, and our impact improves with time.
The third cohort of 11 New Mothers joined the chapter on April 25, 2021. On Mother’s Day Weekend, May 7, 2022, the GSM Associate Jewels Chartering occurred where 13 Associate Jewels were initiated.

GREATER ON MISSION, ON PURPOSE 2022-2025
Under the leadership of Bridgette Tillman, elected President for 2022-2024 and 2024-2026, GSMJJ continued to grow. President Tillman led the chapter under the theme “Greater On Mission, On Purpose” and encouraged GSMJJ mothers and fathers to serve at all levels throughout the organization.

On May 7, 2023, the chapter initiated its Fourth cohort of 14 New Mothers and our Fifth Cohort of 16 New Mothers on May 4, 2025.

THE POWER OF US: ALL IN FOR THE GREATER GOOD 2026-2027
Under the leadership of Teriauna Duran, elected President for 2026-2028, GSM continues to make a mark on the community and organization as a whole. President Duran leads the chapter under the theme “The Power of Us: All In for the Greater Good” cultivating a culture that thrives as One Chapter. Shared Responsibility & Collective Impact.
